Since the auto and construction industries can’t bring us out of this unemployment crisis how about drilling?

Why don’t we turn to the good ole oilfield to get us out of this mess? It sure as hell won’t be green jobs anytime soon so why don’t we start getting our own oil/gas out of the ground in the USA and stop relying on foreign oil? The overseas industry is thinking about taking the u.s. dollar out of the mix, why don’t we crank up more rigs and at least get some industry rolling again? Do you realize how much of a boost the gulf of mexico alone could give our economy?
chmacqueen- I agree we could use a little more transparency as far as the oilfield and politics go and environmentalist have made it almost impossible to drill off the west coast but oil spills have cost us millions of dollars. We don’t have many large oil spills ANYMORE in the U.S. and I’m sure they had something to do with that
As far as it taking 4 years to get it going, the chevrons, exxons, BPs, and Shells are ready to roll right now. They’d use their own money to get it rolling, the oilfield doesn’t need the government to make money and that’s probably why they are almost slowed down to a stop right now. As soon as the government can find a way to get a bigger piece of the pie they will be cheerleading from the beach “Drill, Drill, Drill!!!!!!”

It’s far too good an idea,, the Libs will never go for it.
The fault in that is corrupt government officials getting pocket money from the oil industry won’t allow it and also the green wingnuts wouldn’t stand by quietly either even with using as high of safety standards as possible.
I personally though say go for it. We could with government help get gulf oil fields and a few others operational in 4 years and within 1 year stronger use of oil fields on US soil. That would self the oil industry running and if we went full bore on oil production could provide alot of our own oil for the foreseeable future. They’d think twice about changing off the dollar or raising prices when one of the biggest oil consuming countries is getting ready to kick them to the curb.
ideas that are good for the country are lost on Obama
